Call to Worship: Devotional (By Pastor Dan Loch)

17 And He came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near; 18 for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

Ephesians 2:17-22

When I read these verses there are two truths that make my soul smile. First, I have access to the Father because of His Son Jesus and His Holy Spirit. I am no longer an enemy of God, I am a child of God, a part of His family. Second, this text reminds me that I am being built. The anger, confusion, greed, and despair that so often plague this life are not characteristics that define my eternal life with Christ.

In the meantime, God knows that I am a work in progress. Everyday, His Spirit is transforming me into the image of the Son. What is more, I do not go on this journey alone and this Sunday we get to celebrate the work that God is doing in His church.
