Call to Worship: Devotional (By Pastor Dan)
13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, 15 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16 because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
1st Peter 1:13-16 (NASB)
Do you know anyone who believes that God will forgive them because they have been “generally good”? Or is this a thought we harbor in our own hearts? The truth is, if we are only “generally good” then we are harboring some “exceptional evil”. This thinking is self condemning because we know in our hearts that those who are just, loving, pure, and truly good do not tolerate or justify any evil. So what hope is there if the standard for having a relationship with God is to be as holy as God is holy? The answer is in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the working of our Helper, the Holy Spirit. Through the sacrifice of Christ we have the forgiveness of sins and justification before the Father and by the Spirit we are transformed more and more each day into the image of the Son.
