Call to Worship: Devotional (By Pastor Dan)

12 Those who desire to make a good showing in the flesh try to compel you to be circumcised, simply so that they will not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. 13 For those who are circumcised do not even keep the Law themselves, but they desire to have you circumcised so that they may boast in your flesh. 14 But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Galatians 6:12-14 (NASB)

What shall we boast in? Our wealth? Our health? Our relationships? Jobs? Or what about our religious diligence? All of these are merely external signs that will wither and fade with the passing of the age. Some days we are healthy, other days we whimper at death’s door. Some days we feel a deep, religious conviction and act accordingly. Some days we are cold to the Gospel of Christ. Is this what we boast in? Our fickle nature or our fleeting circumstances? If these are our boast then our boast will not last long. Instead, we need to take Paul’s example to heart and boast in nothing except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. All things will fade away but the love of God and the life He gives through Christ will last forever. He is the only solid ground on which our boast can stand.
